Abstract

To determine the force generated by each of these muscles it is employed the projection on the saggital plane of its action lines and the electromyograms (EMGP) processed by means of rectification and integration. Using the temporomandibular joint and a virtual point (instantaneous center of rotation CRI) as centers of rotation, the individual muscle torques (T1) were calculated, as a function of the related EMGP which summation is proportional to the total torque (TT) measured by means of a intraoral transducer. The constant of proportionality (K) that relates the total torques was used to calculate the approximate force magnitude of each muscle. The results are confirmed calculating, on the saggital plane, the equivalent torque (Teq ) in terms of-a vector summation of all muscle forces with respect of both centers of ratation (cc and CRI).
